Laugh, play games, goof around, and do what you usually do.

All of my sessions are fun, light-hearted, and usually involve some laughter. I love capturing candid moments, as well as thoughtfully posed portraits.

If you are nervous about getting photos taken, it's completely normal! I understand this and try my best to ensure everyone is comfortable. I am good at reading children's moods and making them feel at ease. I tell jokes, have the kids help me with poses, and get each person to interact with one other to create lasting memories.

Family adventures

Have you ever gone on a family hike? What about spending the day together having a picnic at a park? My portrait sessions are similar in that I will take you on a fun, albeit short, adventure. We just happen to be taking pictures at the same time! We'll explore a nearby park, or a beautiful spot by the river.

Your children will have plenty of time to explore and just be kids. These are the memories you'll cherish forever - watching them skip rocks on the water, climb fences, write their name in the sand, or cross a bridge. And don't forget tickle fights! I'll capture it all for you.

FAQ

How would you describe your photography style?

I try and keep my family photography very natural, capturing the action as it happens so it's lots of fun. I feel this brings out the true character of your children and will also make the session more enjoyable. We explore the location together as an adventure and I take plenty of candid shots, as well as posed portraits.

We don’t feel very confident in front of the camera, is that ok?

I totally understand that taking photos can be stressful. It's normal! I've worked with many people that are nervous about the process. I always begin my sessions with friendly conversation or jokes to warm people up. We start slow. By the end of my sessions, most people that were initially nervous have loosened up and have started enjoying themselves.

Where does the session take place?

My sessions are always outdoors (except for the newborn lifestyle shoots) and take place at one-predetermined location. This is typically a local park, near the river, or natural area. I can also do sessions in more urban areas, such as old town Fort Collins, if that is more your style. Please let me know what type of background you would prefer and I'll give you my recommendations.

How should we dress for our family session?

Clothing will make or break your session. A well planned outfit will make your photos pop! I offer several "What to Wear" tips in my Family Welcome Guide, which will be emailed to you upon booking. I am also available for consultation as you build your family wardrobe - all included in your session price!

Can we bring our family dog?

Yes, dogs are allowed but only if they are well-behaved, leashed, and allowed at the location. They must stay leashed and you must be prepared to pick up after them. An extra fee of $25 (per dog) applies.

Do you photograph in color or black & white?

I do a mixture, choosing what I think works best for each individual photo. But most of the images you will receive will be in color.

How will we receive our photos?

Once your gallery is ready, I email you a private link. From there you can view and download all of the edited, high-resolution images directly to your computer or phone. You can also share photos directly to social media, and forward the link to family/friends.

What happens if someone in my family is ill?

Please contact me as soon as possible. I am happy to reschedule if this happens (no additional fee). We want everyone to be happy, well-rested, and healthy for the session.

What if I still have questions before our session?

Please call, text, or email me! I want you to feel completely comfortable before the session. I will also reach out to you prior to your session to make sure I've answered all your questions.

What time will my session take place?

I schedule all my sessions during "golden hour" which is 1-2 hours prior to sunset. Therefore, our starting time will vary with the seasons. During this time of day, the sun is low in the sky, creating a soft, diffused light. Soft light is preferable as it doesn't create harsh shadows, but instead offers a warm, golden glow.

How long will my session last?

All of my sessions last 1-2 hours on location.

What should I bring to the session?

Come prepared! For family sessions, pack a bag with extra clothing items, water, Kleenex, wipes, etc. Snacks are also a good idea to boost your child's energy levels - but keep it clean! Don't bring snacks that can easily spill/stain clothing or leave their mouths/teeth dirty (definitely NO Oreos!). Steer away from candy as this can make children too hyper and less likely to cooperate. Save candy as a reward for the end!

Do you take any traditional posed shots?

You bet! I take a mixture of posed shots along with candid, naturally occurring moments.

Do you offer "mini sessions"?

I do not offer "mini sessions", for good reason. I think there's more to be gained from a full session where you receive more images with a variety of interactions and backgrounds. I'm not in the business to book as many clients, back-to-back, in an effort to make more money. I like to give my clients a more personalized and intimate experience. Many times children (and some adults!) need more time to warm up to the camera, and a full session gives them the opportunity to do so - giving us more genuine smiles and interactions.

How long does it take to receive our gallery?

It takes me approximately 3-4 weeks to edit and prepare your gallery, although this timeframe can sometimes take longer during my busy season (fall).

Where can I order prints?

I provide a full print release with all of my galleries, which means you can print wherever you'd like! Please be aware, though, that you get what you pay for. Try to steer away from big box store photo labs (such as Walgreens and Wal-Mart) as they do not use quality paper or inks. I have professional labs that I trust and highly suggest that you order directly through your gallery or contact me for individualized support and suggestions. Trust me, if you are hanging prints on your wall, you want a quality product that will last!

What happens if there is bad weather?

I'll get in touch prior to your session (after consulting the weather forecast) and if it looks like the weather won't cooperate (too windy, rain/snow, etc.) I will reschedule your session to another mutually available date (no additional fee).
